Rumours have been swirling since November that Debbie Webster, played by Sue Devaney, might be written out in a tragic twist. Reports suggest Sue will deliver an emotionally charged performance as Debbie grapples with a dementia diagnosis on the horizon.
This poignant plotline, expected to unfold in 2025, is tipped to be “long-running” and “promises to be heartbreaking”.
Adding to the Webster family woes, it’s also been confirmed that Debbie’s brother Kevin, portrayed by Michael Le Vell, will confront a battle with testicular cancer come the New Year.
In a recent revelation, ‘s new head honcho Kate Brooks disclosed to Plymouth Live the arrival of Kevin and Debbie’s sibling, Carl, onto the scene.

“We’ve got Carl Webster coming into the show. He’s Kevin and Debbie’s brother,” Kate divulged, noting that although Carl has been referenced in the past, this marks his first appearance in Weatherfield.
Carl, born to Bill Webster (Peter Armitage) and Elaine Webster (Judy Gridley), has been off-screen, residing in Germany where he was born, reports Plymouth Live.

She detailed Abi’s struggles alongside Kevin’s health battle, stating: “Abi is a really strong character, but she is going through her own turmoil at the same time. We want to tell this really truthfully, we’ve been working closely with MacMillan to make sure that we tell the story right.”
Describing Kevin’s courageous reaction, Kate observed: “It was really important actually, that we don’t show Kevin being embarrassed to talk to his friends about it. And he’s quite open about it which I felt was refreshing.”
Nevertheless, it’s Kevin and Abi’s partnership that looks braced for the most significant challenge, as Kate hinted: “But ultimately it’s about his relationship with Abi and that is going to truly tested.”
