Many Christmas films are all about escapism, with viewers whisked away to popular holiday destinations, often ones featuring particularly snowy landscapes. The 1988 Christmas classic Scrooged, for example, is based in New York and therefore features the iconic yellow taxi cab.

Officially a 1978 Checker Marathon, the taxi is used by a chain-smoking version of the Ghost of Christmas past to take Frank, Bill Murray, back in time to witness his former self.

A few years later, the 2003 film Elf sees Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, hit by a similar yellow taxi cab, this time a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria, when he first encounters the Big Apple.

With many Brits taking a slower pace during the festive season, it is no surprise that the majority of cars featuring in Christmas films are slower family models. However, the new Christmas blockbuster Red One is an exception that proves the rule.

Featuring Dwane Johnson and Chris Evans playing Callum and Jack – a security member and bounty hunter who search for a kidnapped Father Christmas- the complete the mission in a new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

One of the most iconic models made in America, the Stingray in question was obtained by the pair by scaling up a tiny Hot Wheels toy into a real model, featuring a staggering top speed of 194mph.

Finally, in a complete contrast to the glamour of a new Corvette, Hagerty noted that one of the most iconic festive cars of all time is the Ford Taurus Wagon used in the 1989 movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Whilst the Griswold family’s most famous car would be the infamously ugly Family Truckster, their Christmas film swapped it in favour of a slightly more attractive, not to mention genuine, Ford estate car, albeit one that was covered in fake wood panelling.

Being a National Lampoon film, the car takes a lot of battering throughout its winter journey, being driven underneath a truck carrying tree trunks and taking on a jump that causes it to land in thick snow.
