Group members in the comments section offered a flurry of suggestions, and the most common and quickest was to use soda crystals.

Susan Hale wrote: “I only discovered soda crystals a few months ago and it’s been a game changer. Deffo soda crystals and a kettle of hot water and leave for a few minutes.”

Natalie Steel said: “Cover with soda crystals and boiling water then leave for five minutes. Sorted.”

April Amy noted: “My mum works in a kitchen and she said the best thing is soda crystals and water, bring to a boil on your hob for five minutes then let it cool and it will come off so easy.”

Justine Watkins suggested: “Soda crystals and hot water are great. The grease just floats off.”

Ashleigh Wood said: “Fill with hot water and soda crystals. Put on the hob and bring to a boil for five minutes.

“Don’t know how it works and when my mum told me this I laughed in her face, but when I tried it, the grease melted off. It worked so well.”

According to soda crystals manufacturer , this natural product is “excellent for dissolving grease and working on stubborn, burnt-on food”.

For those cleaning their greasy oven dishes immediately, sprinkle on dry crystals while the tray is hot. Leave to stand for a few minutes so the crystals soak up the fat, then scrape the mixture into the bin.
