It’s been a busy year for the Royal Family with a diary jam packed full of engagements. However, the Windsors have battled a string of setbacks this year, with many health related issues taking the spotlight.

The start of the year saw two senior members of the Royal Family diagnosed with cancer as 2024 began with a rocky start. It came after the Princess of Wales was admitted to the London Clinic for abdominal surgery, with Buckingham Palace announcing King Charles’ treatment for an enlarged prostate the same day.

Both, later announced they had been diagnosed with cancer.

The tumultuousness stretched further afield than personal issues too, with the monarchy welcoming the arrival of Sir , the King’s third prime minister, and the sudden departure of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, due to the church’s historic handling of child abuse.

Regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their year revolved around their multi-million pound deal which saw the pair continue their roles in producing. Their most recent release was the docu-series Polo – and mixed reviews suggest the streaming giant’s contract with the couple may be ending in the same way that Spotify did.

The King’s brother, the Duke of York, had a rocky year too with his financial support cut off and advice to move out of the Royal Lodge. The last month has seen his reputation tarnished further as his friendship with an alleged Chinese spy was revealed.

With the New Year less than a week away, hopes of 2025 starting more positively than last year remain high.
