Gavin & Stacey returns for the Christmas finale

Although the show is set across both England and Wales, most of the locations used for filming were actually in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, and surrounding areas for the latest series.
Express Online takes an inside look into the surprising locations where the sitcom was filmed.
Barry
This South Wales town is where the Shipman family call home and is where a majority of production is filmed.
A single street in Barry – Trinity Street – contains the homes of Gwen, Stacy, Doris and Uncle Bryn – where they film in real terraced homes lending a more realistic feel to the programme.
For the upcoming Christmas special, a new set had to be built for Gwen’s house to accommodate the cast involved.
However, Barry has even played host to several key locations from the show that are supposed to be back in England.
For instance, the Essex pub otherwise known as The Colcot Arms in which Smithy plays quizmaster, is in fact in Barry.

Barry Island
The Island Leisure Amusement Arcade where Nessa works, which was also re-branded “Nessa’s Slots” in the show, is loacted on Barry Island.
Barry’s beachfront have also formed a famous part of the show’s locale and is also where you will find Marco’s café.
Barry Island also boasts “The Square” in which Gavin and Stacey first declared their love for each other all the way back in season one.
The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the famous location in 2020.

Penarth
Penarth has been a popular holiday destination since the Victorian era.
Remember when Uncle Bryn arranged a surprise barn dance for Gwen’s birthday?
It was supposed to take place in Barry, but it was actually filmed in All Saints Church Hall in Penarth.
