will return to Formula One after the New Year as a driver, but the British racer’s dream of working with appears all but dead in the water.
While the Drivers’ Championship played out as expected, 2024 proved a year full of unpredictable moments off the track in Formula One, with Hamilton’s switch to chief amongst them.
The seven-time world champion announced his plans to leave at the end of the 2024 season back in February, with the move sparking the driver market into life.
There had been speculation that Hamilton’s rival, , might be tempted by a switch to , but kept hold of the four-in-a-row champion, who looks set to remain in Milton Keynes.
The same can’t be said of Newey, who amid a chaotic year of behind-the-scenes action at , left the constructor to join instead.
It’s a switch that , with Aston Martin now being spoken about as a future Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship contender.
But in the more present future, Newey’s move to Aston Martin all but rules out the chance of Hamilton ever working under the Formula One guru – something he’s previously dubbed a dream.

Speaking earlier in the Formula One season, Hamilton said: “Adrian Newey has got such a great history and track record and he has done an amazing job through his career. With the knowledge he has he would be an amazing addition.”
He added: “They [] have got a great team and they are making huge progress and their car is quicker this year, but it would be a privilege to work with him.
“If I was to do a list of people I would like to work with then he [Newey] would absolutely be at the top of it. Any team would be fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him.”

Newey did respond to Hamilton’s flatteries, telling Sky Sports: “It’s very kind of Lewis to say that. I’m very flattered, but at the moment it’s just take a little bit of a break and see what happens next.”
A move to Aston Martin, , is what followed, with Newey set to start his role with the British-based team in March 2025.
The 2025 season gets underway two weeks later in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix.
