Robbie couldn’t believe what was in the box
A man went big on Christmas crackers as he bought some from luxury department store and couldn’t believe what he found when he discovered the contents, one-by-one.
Robbie Knox splashed out on the luxury crackers, which cost a staggering £700, and posted videos on opening the them with different friends. Beneath the luxury packaging are six giant crackers, working out at £120 per cracker.
The first friend Robbie opened them with was Peter Dale, known as Tubes, from his presenter role on British talk show Soccer AM. The pair gasped out loud when they opened the box to uncover the stunning golden colour Christmas crackers decorated with green velvet bows but they were disappointed when they saw the crackers’ contents.
After having a good laugh about the crackers not ‘popping’ when they pulled them, the first treat, won by Peter, was a golden coloured, cardboard crown hat. Robbie reacted: “That is not amazing”.
Peter gave his verdict on his prize: “Better fabric, no creases in it or when you take it out it just de-creases itself. I’ve got to be honest, the Christmas cracker itself looks incredible, unbelievable but there was no bang and when we eventually found the bang, it wasn’t loud.”

The TV presenter also won a crystal ornament from Waterford, worth £85, from the cracker but admitted he “didn’t really know what it was” until Robbie told him. He got a £50 voucher to spend at the London department store. Peter described the crystal as “good quality” and rated it a 6 out of 10 but he was “not impressed” overall.
The second friend Robbie opened the Christmas crackers with was Chelsea Dickenson, a ‘cheap holiday expert’ and Christmas market connoisseur’ to see if she would “be a bit more grateful” for her cracker. When Robbie showed Chelsea the Harrods Christmas crackers she said: “They are decadent, there’s jewels and velvet. That in itself is probably like £20 each.
She expressed her concern hat Harrods have gone “too hard on the outside” that the inside might not be so great. Chelsea and Robbie pulled one of the Christmas crackers together and Chelsea won the prize, as she was left with the bigger end of the cracker.
She shared her joy at winning when she said: “Yes! I never win crackers so I can’t believe this.” Then she opened what was inside the cracker and found another cardboard crown which she rated to be “big head approved” after it fit her head.
Chelsea claimed she and her family have “quite large heads” so they often struggle to find crackers that have big enough crowns. Talking about the cardboard crown she added: “I think that’s actually quite lovely.”
She also found a fact about Harrods written on a piece of paper when she pulled the cracker. She read out loud: “Did you know the tile decoration in the dining hall was designed by the artist William Neatby and he had a very tight schedule? The whole of the decoration was designed in just nine weeks.”
The other side of the paper had a joke about a line of rabbits jumping backwards which Robbie said was “good” and Chelsea said she had never heard this joke before. Robbie added: “That’s quite good if you got a joke you’ve never heard of” and Chelsea agreed that that “was really good”.
Finally, the cheap holiday expert opened her last prize from the Christmas cracker – a black bag which she guessed contained an eye mask. The video ended before Chelsea revealed what was inside the bag but Robbie shared the full video on YouTube opening all the Christmas which showed that it was a silky eye mask from Gingerlily, priced at £50 from Harrods.
Robbie continued opening the rest of the Christmas crackers with various friends in his 44-minute long YouTube video and other prizes included a bottle opener and ‘bottle stopper’ to replace the cork after opening a bottle, a bottle of Dr Firenze oud room fragrancer and a pair of Shleep socks made with “50% finest Australian Merino wool” at a price of £48 from the retailer’s website. Robbie posted six videos about the Harrods Christmas crackers which got up to two million views.
users were also unimpressed by the treats inside the crackers. One said: “For £700 I’d have wanted a butler to pop out with a five course Christmas dinner and to clean up after!” Another added: “The party hat is very much like the McDonald’s kids crowns haha”.
Each of the Christmas crackers came with a cardboard crown, a joke and a voucher. Some people who saw the videos on thought some of the prizes were worth it as one user claimed: “Waterford is one of the best crystals you can buy. That ornament would be about £60/80 if purchased separately, plus a £50 voucher. I wouldn’t have begrudged £120.”
