Joe Cullen served up a spiky 22-word interview on stage at the Alexandra Palace just moments before storming out of his pre-match press conference.

The Rockstar looked back to his best during the round two clash with Wessel Nijman on Sunday afternoon, with Cullen taking a stylish 3-0 victory.

Cullen threw eight 180s during the three-set victory, as well as posting an impressive 98 average against his Dutch competitor.

But despite the whitewash, Cullen wasn’t up for talking too much during his post-match interview with Abigail Davies on the Ally Pally stage.

When asked if he let his darts do the talking against Nijman, Cullen bluntly replied: “Yeah I did.”

The unceremonious responses continued throughout when Cullen quizzed on how much work he’d put in behind the scenes.

The 35-year-old continued: “No not really. I was ill all week, threw my first yesterday for the best part of a week.”

But it was Davies’ final question that produced the shortest reply from Cullen, with the Sky Sports reporter interested to know if it was the best the English thrower had felt for some time.

Clearly not in the mood for talking, Cullen simply stated: “No.”

There was at least time for Cullen to thank Davies for the on-stage chat, finishing up by saying: “Thank you very much Abbie, cheers.”

A grand total of 30 words were said in the best part of a minute by the Bradford-born arrowsmith.

Cullen was more talkative in his press conference after the game, but the spikiness didn’t simmer down… in fact, the world No.23 turned the heat up even more.

, even though Cullen had entered the Worlds in poor form.

He stated: “I don’t know Wessel personally but I think the surrounding of the media led to his demise a little bit.

“I’ve struggled this year on the oche and off the oche so to find a performance like that, to be honest I’ve got you guys to thank because I don’t think I would have played like that if I had read some of the nonsense that I read beforehand.”

Prior to abruptly cutting the interview short, Cullen added: “The media attention that Wessel has got, again, this is not a reflection on him, he seems like a fantastic kid. He’s been caught up in a few things beforehand but he’s served his time and he’s held his hands up, like a lot haven’t.

“The way I’ve been treated with the media and things like that… I know you guys have no control of the bookies, but I’ve been shown no respect so I won’t share any respect to any of you guys tonight. I’m gonna go home. Cheers.”
