A stunning 90-mile road trip between a UK island’s seaside towns is one of UK’s most scenic – and it’ll take your breath away.
Roughly 2.6 million people the each year to take in the region’s verdant landscape, with almost half of the island being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The diamond-shaped island has many affordable ways to see it in all its glory, but this unique island can also be explored with an epic road trip, known as the Wighty 90, which has been described as one of the most scenic driving routes by Away Resorts.
This road trip begins at Freshwater Bay and boasts some of the most scenic sites of the whole route – with the stunning sea on your right.
Next are serene views looking towards Compton Bay – with the distinctive white chalk cliff upon reaching its peak – before passing Hanover Point.

You could choose to make a pit stop here, despite only travelling for two miles, as it’s the well-known location for dinosaur footprints and bones with an array of ice cream sellers to tempt you.
This route then takes you along the Military Road, passing Brook Chine and Chilton Chine, with a lovely secluded beach on offer. Swapping ice creams for pearls, visitors might be tempted by the location of the Isle of Wight Pearl building.

Blackgang Viewpoint Car Park is the next pitstop on this wild ride which is reached after about 15 minutes with a number of options for the intrepid traveller.

Jumping out of your vehicle you will be met with magical sites to soak up, including a lovely stroll along the coastal path taking in the fresh air.
Ventnor is the next on the travel agenda with a route that goes inland through Niton offering a remote village atmosphere that’s home to several churches, a pottery workshop and a couple of amazing local pubs to quench your thirst.
A region favoured by Kate Moss, Ventnor Esplanade is like a step back in time with an array of antique stores, beautiful beaches and plenty of activities at Ventnor promenade.
A stop at Shanklin’s Olde Village is also highly recommended, with old school thatched tea rooms scattered throughout with a buzzing seafront.

At Yaverland you can enjoy a delicious and well-deserved meal at its many cafes. The Culvar Haven Inn comes highly recommended.

Brading Down is another port of call which has great views and described as the second nicest spot on this journey.
Visitors can make a stop at Chessel Pottery Cafe, take a stroll up The Longstone or soak up for the flora and fauna at the National Trust gardens.
Broad Lane in Yarmouth is next with stunning sites as far as the eye can see. The route then crosses the bridge and returns towards Freshwater via the Causeway, thus completing your epic Isle of Wight journey.
