The most obvious task to take on is counter top space. The best way to clean up those pesky marks is using warm water, dish soap, and a microfiber cloth for everyday cleaning.

But if your counter is made from a specific material, Georgina advised that for quartz worktops, using a gentle cream cleanser for tougher spots, as it’s non-porous, is the best method.

Dry wooden worktops immediately after cleaning to avoid water marks and discolouration, while a mix of and water works well for tackling toucher stains on laminate worktops.

Be careful to avoid abrasive sponges, and harsh chemical-based cleaners as these can damage your surfaces.

Georgina’s festive tip is to blot any splashes of food and drink (such as gravy or wine) straight away.

Another task is cleaning up all your gadgets and appliances after making a mess.

Firstly, turn off and cool down appliances before cleaning. Then soak removable parts, such as trays and shelves, in warm, soapy water.

For appliances themselves, use a mild solution of washing up liquid and warm soapy water to clean the interior of your appliances.

An empty spray bottle will come in handy here or you can use a bucket instead.

You can also steam the inside of the microwave by heating a bowl of water to loosen grime.

But don’t forget to wipe down the outside of any appliances, including doors, knobs and handles. You can just use a damp micro-fibre and multi-surface spray.

Georgina warned to always ring out your cloth to avoid water getting into any electrical components, and stay clear of oven cleaners which are harsh and can cause damage to other surfaces if spilled.

For particularly greasy marks, blot away with a paper towel before cleaning to prevent smudging the oil around.

If you accidentally get some mess on the floor, the expert suggested spot cleaning any spills straight away, then you can do a more thorough clean later.

Always keep a lint roller handy during the Christmas season, so you can use it to pick up any spilt glitter or loose pine needles.

When it comes to muddy floors, sweep up any dried mud before going with your floor cleaning product or mix of washing up liquid and warm water.

For any oil spills, blot with a paper towel to absorb as much oil as possible.

If you have any cornstarch or baking soda to hand, you can use this to soak up any remaining oil before sweeping up.
