How do the royals spend Christmas?

Royal Christmases are packed full of tradition, and may not look like the festive celebration you are used to.

The Royal Family follows their German heritage and exchange gifts on Christmas Eve, they will also add finishing touches to the Christmas tree together.

In the evening, they attend a black tie dinner which described in his memoir, Spare, as a “long table covered with white cloth and white name cards.”

A typical royal Christmas Day sees The Firm attend morning mass at St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham.

Often fans line the path up to the church to see the royals as they walk to the historic church.

This church was visited by The Queen’s Great-Great Grandmother Queen Victoria, and dates back to the 16th century.

And like most families, the royals play games on Christmas Day. A favourite is said to be charades, however you won’t catch them sitting down for monopoly – once said the game was banned as things got “too vicious”.
