Mulled wine is a Christmas tradition
Venturing outside into the cold to see the magical lights with a lovely, warming is a dreamy way to spend the Christmassy season.
But, as the plunges into lower temperatures, sometimes being in the comfort of your warm home has the same appeal.
Whether you’re planning to snuggle up on the sofa with a film, or to play boardgames with the family, a helping of wouldn’t go amiss.
Only taking five minutes to prepare, and half hour of being warmed up, is an easy to make that is worthwhile.
Touted as the “best” homemade , here’s how to recreate the spiced wine.

A bottle of Merlot would make the perfect base for a mulled wine
Mulled wine recipe
Ingredients
- 750ml bottle of Merlot, Zinfandel, or Cabernet Sauvignon
- Two cups of apple cider (not apple cider vinegar!)
- Quarter cup honey
- One orange zested and juiced
- Five whole cloves
- Four green cardamom pods
- Two cinnamon sticks
- One whole star anise
- Quarter cup brandy
- Orange slices, for garnish
- Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
Method
Add wine, cider, honey, orange zest and orange juice to a large pot and stir to combine. Add the cloves, cardamom, cinnamon stick, and star anise.
Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer gently for 30 minutes.
Stir in the brandy. To serve, ladle into mugs and garnish with an orange slice and cinnamon sticks.
