BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty corrects co-star after warning of ‘pedants’ watching show

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty was quick to correct her co-star live on-air after warning “pedants” could be watching.

On Saturday morning’s episode (December 21), Naga and her co-host Ben Thompson had just been discussing the weather over the Christmas period. “I hate to burst someone’s bubble, but no white Christmas this year,” Naga began, as Ben added: “No snowball fights.”

Lead weather presenter Simon King joined them on the episode to share insight into host Naga’s “favourite day”, the Winter Solstice.

“No white Christmas, it has been mild, but listen I know this is your favourite day of the year, isn’t it?” Simon began, gesturing toward Naga.

“Today is!” Naga exclaimed, as Simon confirmed to the audience: “It’s the Winter Solstice – and it’s the shortest day.”

Don’t miss…

As he began to get stuck in to his weather report, Naga immediately interjected with a warning and a clarification. “Well,” she started. “You know the pedants get in touch. It’s not the shortest day.”

“Oh no, yes,” Simon replied, as he clarified that “It’s the shortest amount of daylight,” prompting a noise of approval from Naga.

Continuing with his report, Simon detailed how many hours of daylight each area would have.

“Six-and-a-half hours in northern Scotland, about eight hours of daylight in the south west of England but yes, from today, very gradually to start off with, only by a few seconds, tomorrow will be day-length, a little bit longer,” he explained.

The correction came just moments after Naga was called ‘vicious’ by her co-host Ben. The pair had been chatting about a segment hat had just played regarding Wham’s Last Christmas making it to Christmas number one in 2024 – 40 years after it was first released.

After conversation turned to the weather, Ben turned to Naga before telling her: “I think you would be really vicious in a snowball fight,” prompting an eruption of laughter between the pair.
