Strictly Come Dancing’s Toyah Willcox has shared her mortifying experience of a mishap, which she describes as the ‘most embarrassing moment of her life’.

The incident occurred while the singer and her husband, musician Robert Fripp, were filming content for their social media platforms, which have garnered over 120 million views.

Don’t miss…

Toyah, aged 66, inadvertently left the camera on, capturing her in her underwear as she went about her daily activities. “It was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever done,” Toyah admitted.

“My husband Robert and I were dressed as unicorns for a video we were filming and I left the camera on afterwards.”

She continued: “It was running for about 45 minutes and showed me getting dressed and getting ready and my team were watching and nobody told me! I was just getting on with my day. I was in my underwear and I cleaned my teeth, I was singing, walking around and I cleaned the bath.”

Toyah’s team was frantically hoping she would switch off the camera. Upon realising her mistake, she apologised profusely, overwhelmed with embarrassment.

The revelation comes as research commissioned by Smart Energy GB indicates that a quarter of over-65s wish to improve their technology skills. The survey suggests that concerns about online privacy and the fast-paced evolution of technology make it challenging for them to keep up.

More than a third of people surveyed admitted to lacking confidence in setting up new technology, while another third were concerned they wouldn’t know how to use it once it was set up. Toyah, sharing her own experience, said: “Technology is advancing so quickly that I sometimes find it tricky to know which gadgets to get and how to use them.”

Nevertheless, she remains enthusiastic about using modern technology and takes steps to make it more accessible, such as researching and consulting with family and friends about user-friendly devices.

She mentioned her smart meter as an example, finding it easy to use. According to a poll by Smart Energy GB, three-quarters of respondents would rely on younger friends and family for help with tech issues, yet 53% believe new technologies have the potential to simplify their lives.

A spokesperson for Smart Energy GB noted: ” Not all tech necessarily makes life easier. But some gadgets and devices, like smart meters, are intuitive and user-friendly, crafted with simplicity in mind so that everyone can benefit, however tech savvy you might be.”
