Shoppers are demanding Rowntree’s brings back one of its most memorable sweets as they say “nothing comes close”.

The confectionary giant behind classic sweets like Fruit Pastilles and Fruit Gums, as well as Jelly Tots, launched a product back in 2000 which was a hit with kids everywhere – but now is nowhere to be seen.

Bursting Bugs were a gummy sweet shaped like various insects, filled with a thick, oozing goo inside.

Posting in the CasualUK sub-, one keen sugar fan lamented the loss of Bursting Bugs and demanded Rowntree’s brings them back.

:

They said: “To this day, nothing has come close to how tasty these little gooey sweets were. The texture and amount of syrup used inside was just right.

“Every now and then in the wild or some other shop MIGHT release a jelly filled sweet or something similar but it just serves to remind me these got discontinued too early.

“IMO these were the best sweets on the market. Has anyone got any good substitute ideas for these?”

@addtobasket replied: “I keep asking people if they remember these incredible sweets! Only to be met with confused faces. I wish they were back.”

@crumblypancake added: “Just a heads up. Despite the graphics used on the packages of the sports mix and other ‘juices’ line you’ll see in shops atm, they are nothing like these. They are those weird waxy sweets, with zero juice burst. The ‘juices’ are actually only 1% juice used for flavouring.

“Bought when tired and not with it, hoping for juice burst type sweet. They are not that at all!! And the flavour is almost nonexistent.

“Tried eating a few at once for a kick of flavor and regretted it immediately.”

@b2themo said: “When I was a kid and i got a pack of these, I would take them all out of the pack and place them around the room.

“I’d then pretend I was some hungry animal, and crawl around the room pretending to hunt them…. Yea…”

Rowntree’s, which was founded and based in York, is now wholly owned by .

Unfortunately, the last update officially issued by Rowntree’s was not good news.

In 2019, the @rowntrees account tweeted: “Sorry to have to give you disappointing news. Unfortunately Rowntrees Bursting Bugs has been discontinued from our range. It wasn’t as popular as others in the range so we have had to discontinue it. Sorry you’re missing it.”
