Onlookers have taken to social media to say that the vehicle “just crashed into the crowd” at the Christmas market in Magdeburg.

A clip shows loud sirens approaching the event in the city centre.

Driver has been arrested

The driver of the car was arrested, the agency said, citing unidentified government officials in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

There was no immediate information on whether people were killed or injured.
