A woman has been charged with attempted murder, with police alleging she intentionally tried to drive her car into the Fraser River with two young children inside.
Delta police said the car got stuck on the shore before reaching the water off the 8200-block of River Road at about 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 29.
Delta firefighters and good Samaritans had come to the aid of the female driver and children by the time police arrived.
Two charges of attempted murder have been sworn against the driver of the car, who has been arrested and is in custody until her first court appearance.
A publication ban is in place to protect the children’s identity, said Delta police in a statement on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Delta police said he could not provide information on the relationship between the woman and children as it could “potentially compromise the ban that is in place.”
