UK weather maps show 670-mile snow blast hitting 70 counties on New Year’s Day – full list

According to the data, the probability of snow in many parts in the UK is close to 50%.

forecast is more tempered, predicting settled weather in the days following with spells of rain and wind “confined” to Scotland.

The agency warns that there could be a significant difference in weather between Scotland and England throughout the Christmas period.

Their forecast said: “Confidence in the north/south boundary between settled and unsettled steadily lowers through the period.

“Becoming widely mild, perhaps exceptionally so in some places, although clearer spells overnight may lead to localised frost and fog.”

January 1 is set to be cold, with temperatures in the morning close to or below freezing.

Plymouth in the south will likely be the warmest place in the UK with temperatures around four degrees with very few areas in the north seeing anything above zero.

There is some good news however as those areas not hit by snow will likely see settled conditions, with scant rain predicted across most of the UK.
