Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) reacted to President-elect Donald Trump’s message that she “should keep trying,” saying, “it’s bad.”

“Damn you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling bad for me,” she wrote on X on Wednesday, accompanying her message with a laughing emoji.

Ocasio-Cortez was remarking on a Wednesday post from Trump on Truth Social, where he wrote, “Really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party. She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!”

On Tuesday, the New York congresswomanlost the vote 131-84 to be the top-ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) called “bullshit” on the suggestion that there were generational overtones to his matchup against Ocasio-Cortez, 35.

“I’ve never had a shot,” said Connolly, 74. “This is my shot, irrespective of my age. I have something to contribute still, and I want to do it.”

After the loss, Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media, “Tried my best. Sorry I couldn’t pull it through everyone – we live to fight another day” along with a heart emoji.

In August, when Trump was asked about Ocasio-Cortez, he called her “fake” before offering a compliment.

“She’s got a thing going,” he said. “It’s a good thing. A good thing for her. But there’s a certain something she’s got. She’s got a spark that’s pretty amazing actually. She’s got a good spark.”
