Supermarket giant Asda is selling Christmas dinner items for just 8p each from today – and you don’t even need a loyalty card,

The supermarket has waded into the Christmas veg war in a big way, undercutting rivals.

Martin Lewis, in his festive deals predictor, forecast that supermarkets would sell 15p vegetables in time for Christmas, and then the likes of duly followed suit and announced deals at that price.

But now has taken the drastic step of undercutting rivals and chopping the price of its Christmas veg down to just 8p per item, including for 2KG bags of potatoes.

Such deals are known as ‘loss leaders’, whereby supermarkets sell some products at a loss in order to tempt shoppers into stores, where they would probably spend money on various other higher margin items just before Christmas, making the money back for the retailer.

But there’s nothing to stop you going to the supermarket and only buying 8p veg.

And is making the price available to everyone, not just those signed up to its Asda Rewards scheme.

The deal will apply to carrots, parsnips, broccoli, potatoes and brussel sprouts.

Asda said: “The news means that Asda is the only supermarket to have an 8p offer on five Christmas veg lines (which includes 2kg potatoes) accessible to all shoppers – no member pricing or need for a loyalty card.

“Available instore and online while stocks last, customers will be able get 1kg carrots, 500g sprouts, 360g broccoli, 500g parsnips and for the first time 2kg potatoes for just 8p each until Tuesday 24th December. Customers can bag all the key Christmas dinner sides for amazing value – that’s Asda Price!”
