Two boys run through the snow / A weather radar snows areas of Britain blanketed
Although the UK is unlikely to get a white Christmas this year, the days running up to December 25 could see large areas of the UK blanketed in snow, according to new weather maps.
According to WX Charts, snow is set to arrive on UK shores at 9am on December 21 in the Scottish Highlands.
The forecaster’s radar predicts that 12 hours later, a new band of snow will arrive as far south as Northumberland and Cumbria, stretching up to the northern tip of mainland Scotland.
Roll into early Sunday morning and the snow will have moved further south again, this time reaching South Wales, patches of the Midlands and the north-west of England, as well as the west coast of Scotland.

WX Charts predicts that by 9am there will even be snow in Southampton and south-west London. However, the forecaster’s radar shows that the snowfall will largely have subsided by mid-Sunday afternoon.
Nevertheless, areas of Wales, north-west England and the west coast of Scotland may still see flurries.
As Sunday night becomes Monday, the snow is predicted to persist but shift across the country. According to the forecaster London, Birmingham and northern areas of Scotland may see light dustings.
By noon on Monday it’ll be eastern Scotland that sees the final dump before Christmas. If WX Chart’s prediction is correct, the UK will see snowfall continuously for a staggering 51 hours.
The UK’s official weather forecaster, the , is predicting snowfall over the same period. However, it does not predict large areas will be hit, instead suggesting that isolated areas may see snow.
