During the festive season, many families embark on holiday trips to create magical memories for their children.
However, one mum’s recent trip to Butlin’s in Minehead fell short of expectations. Katie Hulme, 25, took to to share her disappointing experience, posting footage of the room she was given.
The video revealed unclean light switches, dust and hair along the skirting boards and what appeared to be mould in the shower corners. Far from the enchanting they had hoped for, Katie described the experience as “absolutely grim”.
She claimed that the resort offered a mere £25.00 voucher as compensation. After sharing her video of the “unclean” accommodation, it quickly garnered attention, with over 1,000 views and numerous comments.
One viewer shared a similar experience, stating: “Ours hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived.” Another warned: “Once you’ve been to a Butlin’s weekend you won’t want to take your kids to the same place.”

Absolutely grim… to think they offer rooms like this to people coming with kids & then tried to compensate it with a £25 voucher?????????????????? @Butlin’s
However, not all feedback was negative, with some viewers praising their own experiences at the popular resort. One user commented: “We did Christmas at Skegness and it was brilliant. The room was great.”
Another added: “I’ve been to Butlin’s, Minehead. The chalet has always been clean.”
Butlin’s has enjoyed a surge in visitors at its three resorts, with tens of thousands enjoying festive breaks recently and showering the new “Father Christmas Express Delivery” experience with praise. Amidst this success, staff at Butlin’s responded swiftly when Katie highlighted issues with her accommodation, claiming they immediately offered an alternative unit as well as a good-gesture voucher to apologise for the inconvenience.
Addressing Katie’s concerns, a spokesperson from Butlin’s relayed their regret, saying: “We’re sorry and disappointed to see the cleanliness issues the guest experienced with their accommodation. This certainly isn’t the high standards we expect our guests to receive when they holiday with us.
“We moved the family to a different apartment and offered a gesture of goodwill which was accepted.”
