The presenter and founder of Money Saving Expert, 52, has swapped his usual money-saving tips for board game strategies.

This festive season, Martin has embarked on a mission to equip the nation with the skills to outsmart their family members at board games, providing smart tips and secret tactics for victory.

The ITV host appeared on Tuesday’s instalment of (December 17) Good Morning Britain with and ,where he shared some expert tips on how to dominate the property trading game Monopoly.

He revealed that purchasing the orange properties is his secret strategy, claiming they offer the “best value for money, something I know a bit about.”

The segment sparked outrage from viewers who flocked to social media to complain.

One furious viewer wrote: “Martin Lewis has DESTROYED the UK. Now he is ruining Christmas with his bloody statistics on how to win at Monopoly. What next? Martin Lewis’s statistical approach to: Wiping your bottom? Eating moist bread? Conker usage? God? Is this man a Chinese spy?”

Another agreed: “We used to love watching him when he presented the One O’Clock News each lunchtime before Neighbours. Things clearly went downhill when he started this money saving lark.

A third responded: “We’ve been saying this for a while now. Think he’s sold out for the money, once he fought for people’s rights, now he reads out statements and never challenges them, such as Ofgem etc.”

Someone else shared: “Oh wow, isn’t he great at blowing his own trumpet! – should have had me on the telly when I was 10 it isn’t exactly hard to work it out. Especially if you are competitive when playing against brothers and sisters!”

However, others leaped to the defence of the presenter as they admitted how helpful he has been in their lives.

“I’m not going to knock the guy. Following his advice I managed to pay my off 10 years earlier,” said one person as another agreed: “What a lovely man, he helps people play Monopoly and that’s an achievement. End of the day people have really benefited from his advice.”

During the show, Martin revealed his affection for Scrabble, sharing that it held a special place in his heart as he had used the game to propose to his wife, former 5 News weather presenter Lara Lewington.

The couple, who married in 2009 and have a 12-year-old daughter, shared the unique proposal story with viewers.

Lara recalled: “Martin proposed to me on a Scrabble set and once he got the letters out I thought he had too many letters because will you marry me is more than seven letters.”

She continued: “So I said ‘what are you doing? You’ve got too many letters on the board’ but he said ‘wait just wait’ and then of course he put them down and I felt bad because I accused him of cheating.”
