Large parts of the UK could draw back the blinds on and uncover blankets of snow.

Brutal WXCHARTS weather maps have turned various shades of purple indicating that heavy is on its way with it to hit as far south as Devon.

could mark a snowy end to 2024 as 1.5cm of snow could fall per hour in the capital at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Parts of the West Midlands and the East of England could also be blanketed in snow depths predicted to reach 0.6cm.

Wales won’t miss out on seeing some New Year’s flakes with northern and central parts of the country forecast a maximum of 1cm per hour.

The Scottish Highlands will also see a flurry of snow.

The snow will worsen throughout the night with Wales barely even visible on weather maps at 6am on New Year’s Eve.

Key areas including Cardiff, Swansea and Aberwstwyth will all be blanketed in snow.

Mid Wales will see the worst of the worst of the snow as 2cm could fall here every hour.

Somerset will also see the brunt of the snow with snow depths predicted to reach 2cm.

Hastings, Dover and Brighton will also between 1cm-2cm of snow fall per hour whilst although London will see the snow ease off it will not vanish completely with 0.4cm-0.6cm predicted.

Parts of Scotland will continue to see glimpses of snow with Aberdeenshire predicted snow a maximum of 0.8cm likely.

As we go throughout New Year’s Eve weather maps, they suggest the snow will make its way as far south as Devon at 12pm with almost the entirety of the South West to be blanketed.

Elsewhere, tips of the Scottish Highlands will see snow depths reach 2cm.

Seperately, in its long-range forecast for December 31 to January 14 the is warning that “Some snow is possible during any colder interludes, especially over high ground in the north”.

The weather during this period will be “changeable, with spells of wet and windy weather interspersed with some drier, more settled interludes”. “The heaviest rain and strongest winds will generally be in the north, with the south drier and less windy overall. Temperatures will likely vary around average, but with a trend toward milder conditions favoured, especially in the south”.
