The Australian has thrived on the grass courts of the All England Club, also enjoying his breakthrough there as a teenage wildcard 10 years ago.
But Kyrgios still feels “weird” at the historic Grand Slam event and has now explained why he has an issue with competing at .
Ahead of his comeback from injury, the former world No. 13 appeared on the Nothing Major podcast, hosted by retired American stars John Isner, Jack Sock, Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson.

“Dude, I’m sorry, but as an event, , even as the event, it’s not even that good in my opinion,” the 2022 runner-up said. “I don’t really like the set-up. I don’t like the cafe and stuff.”
Unsurprisingly, Kyrgios preferred his home Grand Slam tournament, adding: “Aussie Open is unreal.”

But the Nothing Majors hosts disagreed, pulling him up for his comments about the grass-court Major. Sock’s jaw dropped before he replied: “What are you talking about? You made the finals.”
Querrey, who reached the semi-final there in 2017, said: “ is on another level.” But Kyrgios doubled down, explaining why the All England Club was inferior to the US Open.
“The US Open is my favourite. I love the venue. I think the food court is insane. I f***ing love it,” he continued.
“ is insane. Like it’s insane. I just don’t like the – I prefer US Open. The US Open is so simple. Locker room, go upstairs, food. , just not a fan of it.”
Sock still wasn’t having it. The former world No. 8 – who has previously played doubles with Kyrgios – added: “, you leave the locker room, you walk across a mini bridge. You’re not even 30 yards away.”
But Querrey tried to reason with the 29-year-old. “ is pretty stuffy. Nick is anti-stuffy, maybe that’s it. Culturally you don’t mix with ,” he argued.
The seven-time title winner agreed. “I just feel weird there,” Kyrgios admitted.
While Kyrgios has some issues with , that hasn’t stopped him from taking on new roles at SW19 during his lengthy injury layoff. He showed up in 2023 intending to compete but was forced to pull out on the eve of the tournament.
Earlier this year, the Aussie was back at the All England Club to take on a punditry role for the . Kyrgios also got on the practice court with . And he will be hoping to return in 2025 to compete in the main draw.
