Ranvir Singh, the acclaimed presenter, has been open about her struggles with alopecia – but many might not realise she deals with this condition.
The 47-year-old broadcaster first noticed hair loss at just eight-years-old following her father’s tragic and fatal heart attack. Amidst mourning, Ranvir observed an increasing number of thinning spots and now opts for a fringe to veil the affected areas.
On Lorraine’s (December 17) show, Tyler West – who typically shares TV highlights – joined Ranvir and Dr Hilary Jones to exhibit his successful hair transplant results.
Tyler shared his contentment and detailed his procedure where follicles were relocated from the back of his head to his forehead. Although interested, Ranvir seized the moment to convey an essential point for those with alopecia before concluding the segment.
Addressing Dr Hilary, she interjected: “We’ve got to go in a minute but just to say, it’s not… you can’t… alopecia…” Pausing, Ranvir gestured towards Dr Hilary, revealing: “I’ve got alopecia as you know because we’ve talked about it.”

The doctor affirmed with a supportive ‘Yes’, prompting Ranvir to share her own experience, saying: “In fact I did go and talk about having a hair transplant but they said, ‘You haven’t got enough hair at the back to do it.'”
Dr Hilary Jones chimed in with his medical expertise on the show, asserting: “There are different kinds of hair loss, so if it’s permanent hair loss due to genetics and male pattern baldness which women can also suffer from then this would work.”
He clarified, adding: “But it’s not going to work for alopecia areata, which is when your hair falls out in clumps but will regrown spontaneously later so it’s not for everybody.”
Dr Hilary stepped in with the facts
Ranvir Singh has previously opened up about her struggle with alopecia on Lorraine, reports . In April 2022, she bravely demonstrated the extent of her condition live on air, parting her hair to reveal the effects to viewers.
The discussion had been sparked by the global reaction to Will Smith’s altercation with Chris Rock at the Oscars, following a joke made about Jada Pinkett-Smith, who has openly battled alopecia.

Confessing her own battles with the condition, Ranvir shared with the audience: “I’ve always had a fringe, I’ve found ways to cover it, I use coloured sprays and things. I’ve got a patch in the middle, I’ve got a patch at the back.”
She recounted the onset of her alopecia, saying: “It started when my dad had a heart attack and when he died, when I was eight or nine and it’s never come back, so I understand a little bit of the real discomfort you live with having it.”
Lorraine airs on ITV1, from 9am weekdays.
