There have already been plenty of surprises at the and a few more could be thrown up on day three. A couple of big names crashed out of the tournament on Monday, with James Wade and Cameron Menzies both suffering defeats.

Wade became the first seeded player to exit the competition, slipping to a one-sided loss at the hands of Jermaine Wattimena. He remains without a win at Alexandra Palace since 2022, while Wattimena will play in round three for the first time in four years.

Menzies, meanwhile, was beaten by Leonard Gates and looked highly emotional throughout the match. He was seen wiping tears from his eyes during the final two legs as the crowd began to ironically cheer when he stepped up to the oche.

A number of exciting matches will take place on Tuesday, with Noa-Lynn van Leuven set to make history as the first transgender player in World Darts Championship history.

Later in the day, Fallon Sherrock will face Ryan Meikle with the winner going up against tournament favourite in the next round.

Transgender player set to make history

Noa-Lynn van Leuven is just hours away from breaking new ground at the World Darts Championship.

She will become the first transgender player to grace the sport’s most prestigious tournament later today.

The 28-year-old, who transitioned in 2021, will face Kevin Doets for a place in the second round.

Speaking ahead of the match, Van Leuven made it clear that she was looking to let her skills take centre stage.

“It’s going to be a big achievement for me and for my kind of people, but I guess I just want to be Noa,” .

“I just want to play darts and not always having to talk about the fact I’m also transgender. I’m a darts player and I’m terribly good at it.

“But I guess it’s a big thing and I’m also the first Dutchwoman to play on the Alexandra Palace stage.”

Luke Humphries mocks Luke Littler to his face

Luke Humphries aimed a cheeky dig at Luke Littler while the pair were filming together for .

They were tasked with interviewing one another, with Humphries asking Littler to name the most iconic moment from their rivalry.

The teenager replied: “I’d probably say the final.”

Humphries was having none of it, though, and said: “I wouldn’t!” in a nod to his victory over Littler in last year’s World Darts Championship final.

It drew laughter from both players, who will be equally desperate to secure the honours at Alexandra Palace this time around.
