With Day just over a week away, many are prioritising getting their homes spick and span in time for their festive visitors.

This includes decluttering spare rooms and ensuring kitchens are gleaming and ready to welcome guests.

A grimy oven can not only be a source of embarrassment but also cause unpleasant odours from burnt food residues, which can affect the flavour of your dishes.

A oven minimises grease accumulation and fire hazards, enhancing your cooking experience, particularly during the holiday season.

While there’s lots of products on the market promising to restore your oven to its former glory, opting for natural alternatives can help you avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, promoting a safer and more environmentally friendly routine.

Cleaning gurus at Arm and Hammer suggest that two simple ingredients can effectively spruce up your oven in time for the roasting session.

Baking soda and vinegar, when used together, can effortlessly eliminate unwanted grime.

The baking soda serves as a mild abrasive to scrub surfaces, while vinegar dissolves grease and mineral deposits, leaving your oven spotless and odour-free, reports .

What’s more, these ingredients are inexpensive, allowing you to allocate more of your budget towards festive treats like mince pies.

Here’s how to clean your oven using just two ingredients:

Make a paste

Firstly, create a paste by combining some baking soda with a small amount of water until it forms a thick consistency.

Apply the paste evenly on the interior surfaces of the oven, ensuring it covers the door and racks as well.

Let it sit

Allow the paste to work its magic. The duration will depend on how dirty your oven is, but generally, 30 minutes should suffice for a light clean, while more stubborn grease and grime may require a longer period.

Spray with vinegar

Directly spray white vinegar onto the baking soda paste. This will cause a foaming reaction that aids in breaking down the grease and grime.

Scrub and wipe

Finally, gently scrub the oven surfaces using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth, then finish off by wiping with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.

Experts also recommend using a 3:1 water to distilled vinegar mixture to wipe down the interior and doors, giving them a sparkling finish.

While baking soda and vinegar are natural ingredients, always wear gloves to protect your hands and test the mixture in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire oven.

Oven racks should be removed and cleaned separately.
