Sky Sports F1 lead commentator has revealed that the broadcaster still receives complaints about the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix controversy ‘on an almost daily basis’ with angry fans unwilling to forget race control’s calamitous error.

Hamilton heads into the 2025 campaign still searching for his eighth World Championship. However, the Brit’s passionate fanbase is still left to rue the final laps of the title decider in 2021 when an erroneous application of the rules by Michael Masi allowed the chance to snatch the crown on the final lap of the race.

According to Croft, some of these complaints find their way to Sky Sports, which produces the British broadcast of F1. After a back-and-forth with Ted Kravitz during the Abu Dhabi GP weekend, he said: “We still remember it. The rules weren’t followed.

“We know that, we’ve read the report. It’s not going to change. What can I say? Probably nothing because whatever I do say, it’s going to be wrong. So I try and ignore it, to be fair. We all know what happened, but it isn’t going to change, I’m afraid, fans. You still contact us, on an almost daily basis, about Abu Dhabi 2021.”

Croft added: “I really want Lewis to win an eighth World Championship, just because he did, on driving alone that night, deserve an eighth World Championship. But live sport is live sport. And things happen sometimes that don’t go according to plan. That was that. It could go well, it could go against you. Live sport.”

Standing in his way, however, is both the threat of and and a formidable new team-mate in Charles Leclerc. “On one hand, I’m going to learn from one of the best,” the Monegasque racer said, “and on the other, it’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can do against such an incredible driver.”

Asked if he can win the title next year, Leclerc continued: “We just need a car that, throughout the season, is capable of doing that. But I’m fully confident the next team to be able to beat , especially for the championship, will be us.”
