King Charles ‘beefs up’ Buckingham Palace as he ‘hires prestigious diplomat as top aide’

has “beefed up” his team at after he hired a prestigious diplomat as new top aide, it has been reported.

Theo Rycroft, who is currently a deputy head of mission in Paris, has been appointed as the 76-year-old’s deputy private secretary, according to .

This role, which is known to be one of the most senior positions in the royal household, will see Theo advise the monarch on both his public work and private family matters.

Theo was spotted accompanying during his recent trip to Paris, having helped to arrange the future King’s successful meeting with US President Elect .

He is married to the Hon Flora Astor, who is a half-sister of Samantha Cameron. Samantha, in turn, is the wife of former Prime Minister, David Cameron.

The Astor dynasty were, earlier this year, named by society bible Tatler in its ‘social power index 2024’. This led them to be described as the top ten most influential people in the land.

The family were also once known to be one of the wealthiest families in the United States, whose fortune was rooted in the fur trade and then Manhattan real estate.

The news of the monarch’s new hire comes just days after after a Christmas Party being held at a nearby bar apparently got out of hand. It was also reported that an arrest had been made after reports of an attempted assault.

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson told the : “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Household staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace.”
