Cooking a whole chicken is a classic way to satisfy the family’s appetite.
You can pop it in the oven with some vegetables and potatoes, or let it simmer in a hearty stew. It’s fairly straightforward to usually taking just a couple of hours to roast.
However, grilling a whole chicken should be uneventful, or so one would think. But a user caused quite a commotion by posting a video of his “pregnant chicken” which has since gone viral.
The caption, “Mad ting pregnant chicken (sic),” has amassed an impressive 1.7 million likes and 20,000 comments since it surfaced online.
In the video, it shows a perfectly roasted chicken with an unexpected twist right in its centre. Before you jump to any wild conclusions – it’s not what it appears to be, though it certainly left many viewers bewildered.
Don’t miss…
One user joked: “Bro hit the jackpot,” while another humorously remarked: “Must be true, it’s on TikTok.” A third admitted: “The way my jaw-dropped.” And a fourth confessed: “Why did I believe it for a second?”
Meanwhile, some TikTok users were sceptical, with one criticising: “That’s so sad,” and another stating: “People make me feel so smart.”
Someone else expressed their initial shock: “Nah because I just sat here upset until I realised they lay eggs.”
Hens, or female chickens, lay eggs and can continue to do so for five to 10 years. They typically start laying eggs around 18 weeks of age, but the exact age depends on the breed.
For instance, hybrid hens like ISA Browns usually start laying at 18 weeks, while pure breeds such as Brahmas may not begin until they are 28 weeks old. On average, a hen lays about six eggs per week, but this can vary.
They tend to lay the most eggs during their first two years, but some may continue to do so for up to 10 years. Therefore, it’s impossible to find a chicken inside another unless it was intentionally placed there as a prank – which appears to be the case here.
