At least 3 dead in Abundant Life Christian School shooting in Wisconsin

At least three people died and at least six others were injured in a school shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, police said.

Officers found multiple victims with gunshot wounds after responding to a report of an active shooter at Abundant Life Christian School around 11 a.m., Madison Chief of Police Shon Barnes said during a press conference.

Barnes stated during the press conference that five people had died, but Madison Police later said in a statement that three people were dead.

The alleged shooter was a student at the school and is believed to be among the deceased, according to Madison Police.

Several people were transported to area hospitals after officers performed “life-saving efforts” to anyone who was wounded, Barnes said.

The injuries “range from minor to life-threatening,” according to a Madison Police incident website.

Barnes did not specify if the victims were students or staff.

“Today is a sad, sad day,” Barnes said. “Not just for Madison, but for our entire country.”

No officers fired their weapons during the incident, Barnes said.

Abundant Life Christian School asked for prayers in a statement posted on Facebook following the shooting.

“Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS,” the school said. “We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able.”

Abundant Life Christian School is a K-12 private school that was founded in 1978, according to its website. About 335 students attend the school, and the student body is comprised of about 200 families from approximately 56 churches in the greater Dane County area, according to the website.
