This unexpected but beautiful city has been named as one of the best for a romantic trip but it’s not one you’d quickly think of. In fact, you probably haven’t heard of it at all.
Plovdiv in Europe. The city in Bulgaria is known for its ancient history and vibrant culture.
Filled with exciting places to visit and lots of adventures for couples to share together, it’s quickly gained a great reputation for travellers.
One popular place to visit in the city is the Ancient theatre of Philippopolis. This impressive site is one of the most well-preserved theatres in the world, the open-air spectator’s area includes 28 rows of marble seats which surround the horseshape stage.
A visitor on said: “The Roman theatre of Philippopolis is one of the world’s best-preserved ancient roman theatres. It is located in the Old Town, the centre part of Plovdiv, Bulgaria.”

They added: “The Roman theatre was constructed around the 1st century AD and can host more than 5,000 spectators.
“It is a beautiful historical place, where you can still go to a concert during the summer season. The acoustics are truly unbelievable and visiting here is a unique experience.”
Another vibrant place to see is Kapana, Plovdiv’s art district – here, you can wander around the colourful streets and explore the bustling cafes and galleries.
One visitor on said: “This is an excellent place for shopping or a walk around the pubs and coffeehouses, it is an alternative area and a full-of-life district in a lovely city.”

For a romantic sunset, one of the best viewpoints in is the Rowing Canal, an evening here makes for the perfect night.
Another great location to watch the sun go down is from Nebet Tepe which you can reach easily from the Old Town by foot.
One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “There is a gorgeous view and you can see the whole city. It is really beautiful and you will sure love it. The climbing to Nebet Tepe is really easy and doesn’t take much time to get there.”
