In his biography Spare, Prince Harry said he told his family that was justified because it was no different to what they and staff had done before.
In 12 words he summed up how he felt about the interview, penning: “The only difference was that Meg and I were upfront about it.”
The Duke of Sussex then added: “I told them that I failed to see how speaking to Oprah was any different from what my family and their staff had done for decades – briefing the press on the sly, planting stories.”

The prince also accused both his parents of corroborating with journalists and authors in the past themsevles.
“And what about the endless books on which they’d co-operated, starting with Pa’s 1994 crypto-autobiography with Jonathan Dimbleby? Or Camilla’s collaborations with the editor Geordie Greig?”, he fumed.
He added in a 12-word reposte: “The only difference was that Meg and I were upfront about it.”
He highlighted: “We chose an interviewer who was above reproach, and we didn’t once hide behind phrases like “Palace sources”, we let people see the words coming out of our mouths.”
Earlier this month the couple faced the aftermath of a German TV documentary which appeared to highlight a gulf between their supposedly noble work and their luxury lifestyle.

Harry’s future role within the monarchy also came under scrutiny in the documentary by award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald.
He spoke to the couple’s neighbours for the documentary as well as veterans who knew and a number of royal reporters and experts.
This week the filmmaker Tyler Perry replied with a two-word response when asked about and ‘s move to the US.
The 55-year-old, who has worked on a wide variety of films, was asked during his interview for whether he had offered the couple any advice when they moved to California in 2020. He simply replied: “I didn’t”.
