The M62 is closed after a serious crash with traffic stopped between J26 and J25.

An air ambulance landed at the scene while a total of two miles of congestion have been reported on the route.

National Highways said the M62 westbound was closed between J26 for the M606 and J25 Brighouse due to a “serious collision”.

It warned traffic had been stopped on the eastbound carriageway to allow the air ambulance to land at the scene.

The agency said: “There are two miles of congestion on the approach westbound. Please allow extra journey time.”

Eastbound lanes reopen, westbound traffic being turned around

National Highways has said all lanes are running again on the eastbound carriageway.

It added that traffic caught within the westbound closure will be turned and released via the rear of the queue.

What’s the diversion route?

National Highways has posted details of its recommended diversion route.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol:

Leave the M62 at J26 and at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A58.

Follow the A58 for around two miles to the junction with the A641 and turn left onto the A641.

Continue for about two miles on the A641 to the roundabout with the A642 and take the 2nd exit onto the A643.

Proceed onto the A643 to the junction with the A644 and turn left onto the A644.

Follow the A644 for about one mile back to the M62 J25 and take the third exit at the roundabout to rejoin the M62 westbound.

Traffic stopped eastbound to allow air ambulance to land

National Highways Yorkshire has posted on X that the M62 westbound is closed between J26 M606 and J25 Brighouse due to a serious collision.

It said traffic was being stopped on the eastbound carriageway to allow the air ambulance to land at the scene.

Congestion was backed up two miles on the westbound approach and motorists have been advised to allow extra journey time.
