Ruth Jones, a household name thanks to her roles in , Stella, and Little Britain, has left fans amazed with her remarkable journey. The actress has shed an impressive four-and-a-half stone, slimming down to a size 12.

Her transformation began after a holiday in January 2010, where she admitted to overindulging and returning home with a newfound determination.

Ruth revealed: “I came back from holiday a couple of years ago – January 2010, and we all overdo it on holiday, don’t we? Something just clicked, I felt this is now or never, I wanted to make a positive change for me, and I haven’t looked back.”

Rather than following fad diets, Ruth opted for a more sensible approach, focusing on managing her portion sizes. By keeping an eye on her caloric intake and ensuring she consumed fewer calories than she burned off daily, Ruth achieved her weight loss goals.

She proudly stated: “It’s taken me 22 months to lose four and a half stone. Although I have done loads of diets in my time I have never done it the old-fashioned way – taking in less calories than I was using,” reports .

Ruth adhered to a strict daily calorie intake of 1,250 to 1,500, lower than the recommended 2,000 calories for women, which contributed to her successful weight loss.

Her approach focused on gradual, long-term lifestyle changes rather than rapid solutions. She cautioned against diets that promise unrealistic results, such as losing a stone in just one week, and instead emphasised the value of perseverance and patience.

Ruth’s strategy involved maintaining a calorie deficit to achieve and sustain her weight loss. According to the NHS, the daily calorie intake guidelines are 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men, although individual requirements may differ based on factors like size, genetics, and overall lifestyle.

Ruth noted: “Some days are better than others. But if you think about it, there’s calorie values on the back of everything – supermarket sandwiches, chocolate bars – everything.”

“The main thing is that I realised I was going to have to be patient. When diets promise you things like ‘lose a stone in a week’ it’s just not realistic. You have to make a decision that if you’ve got a few stones to lose (seven in my case! ) then it’s going to take time.”

The beloved actress is gearing up for her return in the highly anticipated Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. The hit series, which originally aired between 2007 and 2010, made a spectacular comeback in 2019 with a Christmas episode that had fans on the edge of their seats as Nessa popped the question to James Corden’s lovable ‘Smithy’.

Ruth Jones, who portrays Nessa, shared that penning the script was a mix of “excitement, nostalgia and sadness”.

Gavin and Stacey The Finale airs Christmas Day at 9pm.
