Tess Daly to lose nearly half of Strictly Come Dancing wage despite £3m net worth

host will be forced to give up nearly half of her wage for presenting the 2024 series.

Tess, 55, is married to presenter Vernon Kay and has been fronting the ’s premier dance contest, since 2004, firstly alongside legendary host Bruce Forsyth until his departure in 2013.

The blonde bombshell – real name Helen – has become part of the fabric of the show alongside co-host Claudia Winkleman in more recent years, amassing an army of nearly 875,000 followers on to boot.

And it’s been reported that Tess, who also has tie ups with several beauty brands, has amassed a net worth of more than £3M.

But Tess is forced to give up almost half of her wage from the .

Tess Daly earns a reported £150,000 per series for hosting the show, the exact same as her co-host Claudia Winkleman.

But the star is subject to a 45 percent tax rate as someone who earns more than £125,141.

It means mum of two Tess loses £58,713 of every series fee to and National Insurance. After the government takes its share, Tess would be left with £91,286.40, or 60 percent of her total wage, notwithstanding any other income and deductions on other earnings in the same tax year.

Because Tess’ wage is over the top £125,141 threshold, she would not get any Tax Free Allowance, meaning she pays tax on the full £150,000, not just the amount over £12,570.

The also has to pay nearly £20,000 in National Insurance contributions as her employer, an amount which will rise when employer National Insurance is raised from April 2025.

Of course, this money isn’t ‘lost’ but funds schools, hospitals, defence spending and MPs’ wages.

Celebrities appearing on Strictly are also paid, with a reported £25,000 flat fee for taking part and an additional £40,000 bonus if they make it to Blackpool, with another £15,000 for the semi-final.

Winners of the coveted glitterball will collect a cool £100,000 in total, although this would also be subject to tax as it’s technically still an appearance fee and not a prize winning.

The grand final of 2024 will be on One and iPlayer on Saturday, December 14.
