Following in September at the age of 89, details of the star’s net worth have been unveiled.
The renowned actress had a career spanning 64 years in which she accumulated a substantial fortune.
Equity Atlas reports that by 2024, the mother-of-two had amassed a net worth of $40 million (£31.4m), a testament to her distinguished career marked by critically acclaimed performances.
Her wealth was also supplemented by her work behind the scenes. In 2021, the Daily Mail reported that Dame Maggie earned over £2.3million, possibly linked to her role in , marking it as one of the most prosperous years of her career.
Downton Abbey: A New Era, released in 2021, was the second spin-off film based on the popular series. Since its inception in 2010, Dame Maggie has been an integral part of the Downton Abbey saga, proudly portraying the family matriarch Violet Crawley.

According to The List, Maggie leads the Downton Abbey cast with the highest net worth.
She also made millions from other aspects of her illustrious career, reports the Irish Star.
The accounts of Dame Margaret Cross Productions, the actress’ company, showed a profit of £1.6million. This figure was calculated after accounting for £1.6million in bills, according to the Daily Mail.
Dame Maggie stepped into the limelight at just 17, first enchanting audiences in the West End and soon after on Broadway, whilst cutting her teeth in television roles.
Iconic for her sharp portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series, featuring a young Daniel Radcliffe, Dame Maggie ascended to international fame with this character. In a 2014 interview with The Daily Telegraph, Dame Maggie allegedly dubbed her Harry Potter paycheque “her pension”.

Maggie’s sons, are expected to inherit her estate.
Following her split from Robert Stephens, the father of her two sons, in 1975, she found happiness once again by marrying playwright Beverley Cross that year. Their romance lasted until his death in 1998.
Later, as a grandmother, it is reported that she generously dedicated part of her fortune to supporting her grandchildren’s schooling.
