Voice cast behind Pixar’s Inside Out spin-off Dream Productions including Xeni and Paula

New Disney+ series Dream Productions expands on the world of one of the stuidio’s most popular film franchises. The show is a spin-off of Inside Out and a number of recognisable characters are set to return.

However, a whole new cast is set to be introduced and will be the focuse of the four episodes. While the story still focuses on human Riley, it will revolve around the beings that are responsible for creating her dreams.

Fans got a glimpse of this idea in the original film and its sequel but now it is being expanded on. That means new characters as well.

There are number of familiar voices returning from the original films. However a handful of brand new cast members are also making their debut and you will probably recognise more than one.

So who is in the cast of Dream Productions? Where have you heard them before and who is returning from Inside Out and its sequel? Here’s everything you need to know.

Don’t miss…

Paula Persimmon

Paula is the main character of Dream Productions and a celebrated Dream Director when the series kicks-off. She is voiced by Paula Pell, known for her roles in many television comedies. She has appeared in 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as well as A.P. Bio and Girls5eva.

She also voiced a character in Pixar series Monsters at Work. Not only that she appeared in the original Inside Out as an unnamed Dream Director and voiced Riley’s Mother’s anger in both the original and sequel.

Xeni

Xeni is a daydream director in the show who become’s Paula’s new assistant director. He causes some trouble on the way and is voiced by British comedian Richard Ayoade.

Ayoade is best known for the role of Maurice Moss in The I.T. Crowd and hosting Travel Man. He also wrote and directed the films Submarine and The Double which starred Jesse Eisenberg.

Janelle

Janelle starts as Paula’s assistant but quickly becomes the hot new dream director in her own right. She is voiced by actress and musician Ally Maki. Maki previously voiced Giggle McDimples in Toy Story 4 and Haruka in Marvel’s Hit-Monkey. She has also appeared in Hacks, The Big Door Prize and Exploding Kittens.

Studio Head

The Studio Head is exactly that, a parody of bosses who oversees the productions of all Riley’s Dreams. She is voiced by Maya Rudolph in the series. Rudolph is the recognisable face and voice of Saturday Night Live, The Good Place, Big Mouth and Bridesmaids among many more.

Canadian Boyfriend

The satirical role of the Canadian Boyfriend becomes a prominent part in Riley’s dreams. The original iteration of the character is voiced by Noah Bentley. He has appeared in the children’s spin-off series to How To Train Your Dragon, Rescue Riders as well as voicing a part in Batwheels, a kids show about the vehicles belonging to Batman.

Riley Anderson

The show much like the films is all about Riley and her feelings and the character has an important part to play in the spin-off series. She is voiced once again by 16-year-old Kensington Tallman. Tallman has appeared in a number of Disney and Nickelodeon projects during her short career so far including Drama Club and Home Sweet Rome.

However, she is not the original voice of Riley. That was Kaitlyn Dias who was recast from the original release. It is assumed by fans that was purely because the actress was 16 when voicing the character at first but was 25 when the sequel eventually came out and so Pixar found another teenager to continue in the role.

Riley’s Emotions

All of Riley’s original emotions return for the series with most of the original voice actors reprising their roles. Amy Poehler returns as Joy after featuring in the main role for both films, as does The Office’s Phyllis Smith as Sadness. Comedian Lewis Black also makes a comeback as Anger.

Stars of Inside Out 2 return as Liza Lapira plays Disgust and Tony Hale takes on the role of Fear again. Those parts were played by Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader in the first film respectfully.
