has received a sweet Christmas message from a 9-year-old this year, along with a card on behalf of a racehorse dubbed the unluckiest in the UK.

Her Majesty, 77, was given a card on behalf of a thoroughbred called Thank You Ma’am, named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, after his recent losing streak.

The team behind the racehorse said they hoped the card would result in wishes of good luck from the Queen for next year.

The horse, known fondly at home as Leroy, is yet to win a race but has come a close second six times. He is trained by mother and daughter trainer Georgie Nicholls and jockey Olive Nicholls, 18.

Rupert Adams, who manages the Posh Pundit racing club, which owns the horse, said: “Thank you, ma’am. We own one of the best but perhaps one of the unluckiest racehorses in the country.

“He’s delivered excellent performances, but for a number of reasons keeps coming second. Leroy has come second in his past three outings over jumps and in total has finished runner-up six times.

“We will be asking Santa for a little luck this Christmas, and perhaps an extra endorsement from Her Majesty the Queen could provide that little something that we have been missing – the all-important first place.”

Inside the card, a letter was also sent to the Queen by Mr Adams’ nine-year-old son Harry.

In a sweet message, Harry told the Queen to”get well soon” after she had to withdraw from royal engagements
