The King, 76, and Queen, 77, enjoyed listening to two songs by the choir in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon.

The choirs, who were accompanied by musicians from The Band of the Household Cavalry, sang their latest single ‘November Sunday’ – written on behalf of the monarch’s birthday last month – and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, conducted by the Military Wives Choirs’ Artistic Director Hilary Davan Wetton.

Members of the group then met Their Majesties before departing from the Palace after the moving performance.

The event comes after last month to honour and to reflect on the close links between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family.

The Military Wives Choirs charity was originally established in 2012 following the initial success of the first choirs in Catterick, Chivenor and Plymouth and the TV series ‘The Choirs: Military Wives’ with Gareth Malone.

There are currently nearly 1800 women in 70 choirs across the UK and overseas, with choirs as far afield as the Falkland Islands, Cyprus and Canada.

The charity choirs performed at Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee and as part of The Queen’s Speech in 2012.

They also welcomed the Duchess of Edinburgh to Sandhurst last year, where she attended a rehearsal and met choir members.
