actress Carol Royle is mourning the loss of her beloved husband Julian Spear after 47 years of marriage. In a poignant Facebook message, the 70 year old star shared the tragic circumstances of his sudden passing on 9th December, explaining that he succumbed to a massive brain haemorrhage after diving into an unheated outdoor pool.

Her heartfelt announcement read: “I am desperately sorry to post that we lost my wonderful husband, Julian Spear, today, 9th December. Perfectly fit man but jumped into a freezing outdoor pool which he assumed was heated as per usual yesterday, and he developed a sudden massive brain haemorrhage – our hearts are aching.”

She continued with an acknowledgement of their long-lasting union, expressing her grief: “Married 47 years – known each other 56. Forgive me if I am not on Facebook very much for a while.”

Fans and friends immediately responded with messages of support and sympathy. Comments from her followers included sentiments like: “Oh Carol, my heart goes out to you with this terrible news. Sending you much love and light and prayers and strength and heartfelt condolences,” and “Love and hugs to you all. My deepest sympathies to yourself Carol and your family. May Julian rest in eternal peace,” with another adding: “Oh Carol, I am so very sorry. Sending my love and condolences to you and your family.”, reports the Mirror.

Carol shared similar words on Julian’s own Facebook account, hinting at future details regarding the funeral arrangements: “I shall put details here eventually – the funeral will be after Christmas…..”

Julian Spear wasn’t just linked to Carol through marriage, he carried his own artistic legacy as a musician and the son of actor Bernard, who featured in the classic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Carol and her late husband leaves behind two children, Taran and Talitha.

Carol is recognised for her roles as Jenny Russell in Life Without George and Lady Patricia Brewster in Heartbeat. In 1989, she featured as Jessica in Blackeyes, penned by Dennis Potter.

She also had parts in Blake’s 7, The Professionals, Bergerac, Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense, Casualty, Doctors and Father Brown. Recently, she filmed for as Anthea Deering, Joel Deering’s mother.
