Duolingo is down
Duolingo appears to be down for many people as angry users report getting a “lesson is currently unavailable” message as they worry about losing streaks.
One user wrote: “Having service problems tonight? I’m getting ‘lesson is currently unavailable’ every time I try.” Another wrote on Twitter: “@duolingo hey guys, what happens if I can’t practice today due to your outage and lose my streak? Please don’t say it’s gone for good?”
Duolingo is a massive language learning app used by more than 100million peope worldwide to quickly learn a foreign language.
DownDetector, which monitors reports of outages of online service providers, reported a spike of 419 reports at 9.23pm today.
Reports appear to have begun to spike at around 9.08pm.
Duolingo uses ‘gamification’ to encourage learning and as part of this users can go on ‘streaks’ of learning by using it often with friends, much like on social media app Snapchat. Users are tonight worried about losing their streaks now the app appears to have crashed.
Another Twitter user wrote “I restarted my phone and it still dont work duolingo keep saying im offline but i clearly have both wifi and data ?” [sic]
73% of the reports on DownDetector concern the app; with just 22% referring to the online courses and 6% with the website.
But as of 10.10pm, just five fresh reports had come in, suggesting whatever issues people were experiencing may be beginning to be resolved.
Joking on Twitter one user wrote: “Duolingo is down and if I lose my streak before it comes back up again ima be mad,” while another said: “I can take Facebook being down. I can take being down. I can take WhatsApp being down. I can’t take being down.”
