Dick Van Dyke, 98, forced to make harrowing escape amid raging Malibu wildfire

Actor has shared a worrying update about the growing Franklin Fire.

Another fire is causing concerns in . Mandatory evacuations and shelter-in-place orders have been put in place as a wildfire, named Franklin Fire, continues to spread quickly over Malibu, specifically the downtown area.

The actor took to to give his fans a concerning update on his family and their whereabouts.

“Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving,” he wrote. “We’re praying he’ll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires.”

Van Dyke’s worries seem to be growing as he followed the post with a video of his cat with the caption: “Hoping Bobo is ok.”

The inferno has been spreading at a rate of five football fields every minute since igniting late Monday night. It has already affected the iconic Malibu Pier and Pepperdine University, where the beloved Nickelodeon show Zoey 101 was filmed. The school is ordering students to shelter in place at the campus library and student center.

The high winds and low humidity in the area are worsening the conditions.

The National Weather Service warned: “The fire is burning so hot that it is modifying the local winds… (and) bending them towards and into the fire.”

The weather has also affected 57,000 residents in California who are now without power.

The actor’s area, Serra Retreat, was one of the first to be evacuated, along with the part of town east of Malibu Canyon Road. 6,000 people were ordered to leave the area.

Other well-known stars that live in the warning area include Jonah Hill, Julia Roberts and Lady Gaga.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z might have the most to close as they own the most expensive home in California history sitting in the area. They purchased a nearly $200 million mansion in 2023.
