Man arrested in Vancouver sucker-punch attack charged with 2 other assaults

Zachary Tyrell Shettell, 29, was arrested on Dec. 3 near Library Square

A man arrested in a sucker-punch attack in downtown Vancouver has been charged in two other unprovoked assaults.

Zachary Tyrell Shettell, 29, was arrested on Dec. 3 near Library Square by Vancouver police for allegedly attacking a man on West Georgia Street outside The Bay department store on Nov. 28.

The attack, captured by surveillance cameras, showed a man lunge at another man walking alone on the sidewalk, hit him on the face and knock him to the ground before running away.

On Monday, Shettell was charged with one count of assault in relation to the Nov. 28 assault.

He was also charged with an assault on a 35-year-old man near the Vancouver Art Gallery on Nov. 24 and the assault on a 29-year-old man near West Pender and Granville Street on Nov. 25.

In all three cases, the victims did not know Shettell and had no prior interaction with him before the assault, said police.

Shettell is also charged with theft for an incident on Nov. 30, court records show. He was scheduled to appear in downtown community court Tuesday morning.
