A looming strike is threatening a major UK airport this Christmas

Fuel tank workers for North Air based at are threatening to walk out for nearly three weeks over a pay dispute.
The union says the walk-out will begin at 5am on December 18 – exactly a week before Christmas. It will end at the same time on January 6.
This 19 day stretch takes in the expected busiest days of the winter at the capital’s busiest airport, disrupting those who plan to travel this Christmas and New year.
Lasy year Edinburgh Airport, used by 35 airlines flying to 152 destinations, served 14.4m passengers – up a huge 28% on 2022.

As North Air is the only fuel supply company for airlines flying out of Edinburgh Airport, Unite is warning a number of key routes “will be directly impacted”.
The pay dispute relates to a rejected 4.5% pay offer by North Air after “years of below-inflation pay increases”, according to Unite.
The union says the firm’s “belligerence” will “ground domestic and international flights over the festive season”.
Unite is warning that “prestigious routes including United Airlines to New York and Emirates to Dubai along with Loganair’s domestic routes to the islands could be directly impacted”.

Unite industrial officer Carrie Binnie said: “North Air has no concern for their workers or the travelling public.
“The company’s belligerence is at serious risk of causing widespread travel disruption at Edinburgh Airport over the festive season.”
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “We are disappointed that the two parties cannot reach a solution and urge them to continue discussions.
“We’re working with our airlines to understand their contingencies to minimise passenger disruption.”
