BBC radio presenter announces they’re leaving role in ‘brutal’ goodbye

presenter Katie Smith has announced her exit from the broadcaster with a devastating goodbye message to fans on social media.

The sports journalist has commentated on breakfast show since 2017 alongside the accomplished Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards.

Katie reflected on the past seven years with a lengthy post and shared photos of her most memorable moments.

She penned: “I’m leaving the wonderful 5Live Breakfast show in a couple of weeks after a brilliant few years of mayhem with @rachelburden and @rickedwards1 and the amazing team of producers and editors.

“I still remember the first time I walked into MediaCity and I knew I had to work there.”

Katie reflected: “Scroll on a few years and I can’t believe how much I’ve learnt, the people I’ve got to meet, and most specially, the places I’ve been privileged enough to visit.

“But the morning alarms are brutal and it’s time to have a new adventure – which is the plan for 2025 and beyond.”

She added: “I’m so proud I’ll still be doing lots of that for 5Live Sport, and the , who still bring us together for the big moments better than anyone else.”

Many listeners were devastated to learn of her departure including @philydc3 who wrote: “Nooooooo, you can’t do that. Only professional, skilled, broadcaster on the Breaky Show … Anyway, off to get a petition in motion & a letter to the DG, to prevent this.”
