Danny Jones to have up to half of I’m a Celeb £150k fee taken away

McFly star Danny Jones may have walked away as the King of the Jungle on I’m A Celebrity 2024, but it seems the Australian taxman is set to take a big bite out of his prize earnings.

Reports from The Independent suggest that Danny is earning between £150,000 and £200,000 for his stint in the jungle.

This figure aligns with the typical fee paid to celebrities of his profile, with ITV offering substantial sums to attract famous faces to endure weeks of sparse rations, relentless critters, and gruelling challenges.

However, while the paycheck may seem generous, Jones is likely to see less than half of it in his bank account after taxes.

Australian tax laws stipulate that up to 47 per cent of earnings can be taken from non-residents who earn income within the country – a reality that has caught out many previous I’m A Celeb contestants.

Former contestant Michael Buerk, who appeared on the show in 2014, revealed his shock at how much the Australian government deducted from his six-figure fee.

Speaking about the financial hit to the Daily Star, he said: “The Australian taxman takes nearly 50 percent of it straight off the top, which takes some of the cream off.”

This deduction is standard for international stars who agree to film in Australia, though some may find it a surprise. In Danny’s case, his estimated £150,000 fee could drop to £80,000 or less after tax.

The hefty tax rate has affected many high-profile contestants over the years. Celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner, who was reportedly paid £500,000 in 2019, and Noel Edmonds, who earned £600,000 in 2018, would also have seen their earnings heavily reduced.

Even big-ticket names like , who reportedly received a jaw-dropping £1.5 million this year, wouldn’t escape the taxman’s reach.

Despite the tax blow, Danny Jones will undoubtedly look back on his time in the jungle fondly.

He spoke about the close relationships he developed with other castmates, telling This Morning show hosts: “I’ve learned so much about myself, and that’s because the campmates were unbelievable.”
