Despite their delicate and festive appearance, robins are year-round residents of , known for their melodic song and bold, territorial behavior.

These feathered icons of the season fiercely defend their turf, making your garden a vital haven for them during the winter.

The (RHS) said it is important to support garden birds during this time, especially smaller species like robins, which rely on accessible food to survive.

“Help birds in winter by placing fat blocks in wire cages. Balls in plastic nets are not recommended, as birds such as woodpeckers can get their tongues caught,” advised the RHS.

The RHS and other conservation organisations urge gardeners to provide high-fat food sources during winter to help birds maintain energy and warmth.

Regular feeding is crucial, as birds may waste precious energy returning to a garden with no food.

However, as frosts make these harder to find, supplementing their diet with suitable alternatives is vital to their survival.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds recommends offering mealworms, crushed peanuts, or fruit alongside suet-based treats.
