Soda crystals can break down grease and fatty foods that get clogged in drains
Mixing vinegar and baking soda together is a great natural way to list tough stains and dirt, but it does not work to clear a clogged sink as it cannot break down grease.
Grease, fat and oil debris are the main reasons sinks become blocked, so you need a degreaser like soda crystals to do the job.
Soda crystals are highly alkaline, which means they can easily dissolve acidic grease and organic compounds like food, so your sink will be clear in no time.
How to use soda crystals to clear a blocked drain
All you need to do is fill a kettle to the top, boil it and slowly pour the hot water down the drain.
Wait two to three minutes for the water to drain away, and once there is no more water in the sink, pour a cup of soda crystals (around 100g to 200g) into the plug hole.
Simply pour boiling hot water down the sink and your drains will be completely clear
Wait a minute for the soda crystals to go down the pipe, then fill and reboil the kettle again. The boiling hot water helps the soda crystals dissolve and enhances how well they can break down the grease.
Then, wait at least 20 minutes, but you can wait longer for tougher clogs to give the soda crystals time to dissolve the blockage.
After the time is up reboil the kettle one more time and pour the water down the plug to remove the dissolved grease and any other loosened debris.
Your drain should now be completely cleared, so you do not have to worry about blocked pipes or horrid smells coming from your sink.
This drain unclogging method is not only simple and eco-friendly but cheap as well. Soda crystals can be bought for only a few pounds at most supermarkets. Asda sells them for only £2.
